It is with great pleasure that we share the news that Pam Coles was the recipient of the “Dan Calvert” Distinguished Service Award during the Ontario Prospectors Exploration Showcase. This award recognizes that she provides exceptional services to NWOPA and/or the prospecting, exploration, and mining community of Northwestern Ontario.
Pam's dedication to the mining industry spans nearly 15 years, where she has demonstrated exemplary leadership and commitment. Currently serving as the Chief Geophysicist at Abitibi Geophysics, Pam played a pivotal role in establishing the Thunder Bay office in 2013 and has been an integral part of Abitibi Geophysics growth and success since then. As Chief Geophysicist, Pam not only leads a diverse team comprising junior to senior geophysicists but also establishes and upholds a high standard of excellence through her expert guidance.
A proud alumnus of Memorial University of Newfoundland, Pam holds a Bachelor of Science in Geophysics, a foundation that she has leveraged throughout her career. Beyond her professional achievements, Pam is deeply engaged in the academic and community spheres. As a contract lecturer at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, she imparts her knowledge and expertise to the next generation of mining professionals. Pam's extensive involvement in the local mining community underscores her commitment to fostering industry growth and development.
Her contributions extend to board positions at the Ontario Prospectors Association (OPA) and the Northwestern Ontario Prospectors Association (NWOPA). Additionally, Pam served as the chair of Women in Mining Northwestern Ontario (WIM-NWO), where she played a pivotal role in helping the team to get their first scholarship off the ground.
She is the current chair of Mining Day, a local event aimed at educating children and the public about mining and career opportunities. Pam demonstrates her passion for nurturing future talent and promoting industry awareness.
